CJ officiates at Uganda/Pepperdine Mentorship Conference

The Chief Justice has called upon all leaders to adopt a participatory approach of leadership which is guided by humility. "Humility is what makes you a leader or what makes the world know that you're a true leader," he stressed. Adding that relational and servant leadership is not only ideal but also effective.

This he said while delivering a keynote address at the Pepperdine/Uganda Leadership Mentoring Conference 2022 which was held on Wednesday June 29, 2022 at the Sheraton Hotel.

The CJ noted that other traits of a good leader included selflessness, firmness on one's conviction, leading from the front, taking responsibility for the failures of your team and allowing the team to share in the praise for the success, and use of influence rather than force.

He used examples of various renowned leaders to explain the traits, among these were Nelson Mandela, Kwame Nkrumah, Julius Nyerere, Gandhi, Haile Selassie, Patrice Lumumba, Mahatma Gandhi and Menelik II.

Hon. Justice Mike Chibita, as well emphasized the virtue of humility saying, "You don't lose anything by consulting, by trying to find out the right way of doing the thing." He added that as a leader "you don’t have to know everything when you’re a leader, in fact, you will never know everything."

Hon. Justice Chibita said, among the key principles of leadership include being courteous, consulting and good time management.

He urged the law students to fear God as it is the beginning of wisdom which they will need during their career when making decisions.
